Entrust your tires to a pro: a matter of safety
You may have already had a “happy” encounter with a pothole or a sharp object and your tire came out a little sore – to the point of being emptied of all its air…<! –more–>A puncture, even if it can be annoying at the time, is not the end of the world. Install your spare tire, go home and make an appointment with your mechanic.
“What if I fix my tire myself? »
There are indeed repair kits that include rubber wicks coated with glue that you could insert into your tire. Although these kits are inexpensive and easy to use, we do not recommend their use.
The risk of injury is high and this kind of repair is never lasting. In addition, you will not know if the structure of your tire has been damaged. Indeed, as these kits do not require the removal of the tire, you will not be able to see the real extent of the damage caused by the puncture.
One puncture can hide another
You can have your tire repaired under certain conditions:
- If your tire does not show signs of significant wear.
- If the hole is not more than 6 mm and it was not caused by a shock or a sharp object
- If the hole is on the tread (not the sidewall)
- If it has not already been repaired with sealant (which coats the inside of the tire) for less than 24 hours
- If the inner structure of the tire and the part of the rim that clings to the tire are not damaged
If the damage is more extensive than those listed above, your mechanic will be able to advise you on what action to take after a careful inspection of the internal structure of your tire.
